Design Phase

The problem being analyzed is that of 19 students in an Accelerated English 12 class, only 13 students are completing their reading assignment for The Fountainhead. Of those 13 students who have finished reading the book, only 11 of those students are answering more than 50% of the short answer questions related to the reading correctly.
What does the learner do?
The learner does not finish their short answer questions related to the reading, demonstrating that the student does not understand the reading or failed to complete the reading.
What does the learner need to know to do this step?
The learner needs to understand that summer reading counts as a quiz grade when they return to school and that failure to meet the expectations presented by the instructor will result in low grades. Students will also need to know how to use NearPod because their weekly assignments and reading reviews will be located on a NearPod account that all students can access with a code.
What cues inform the leaner that there is a problem, the step is done, or a different step is needed?
The learner will recognize that there is a problem when they receive a bad grade on the quiz/ summer reading assignment. The learner will know there is a problem when the instructor asks them to answer a question and they fail to do so. If they see that their quiz grade is increasing as they continue to complete different readings, they will realize that they've solved the problem.
